RE: Canyon Vistas Group

Chris, we will be at CV the first quarter of 2009. We will be in site 571. Since you will allready be there, we will swing by on our bikes and introduce ourselves. I think I may have communicated with you via a PM in the past. Your home town name rings a bell.

RE: Getting new "local stations" while traveling

My first time setting the the directv for tt was a pain so I called them for help. That person was adamant they will not change the locals every time we move. I wasn't asking her to do that but inquiring if I can keep my locals out of orlando. Now, if I am out of state I would like to know local information for the area I am in. IE bad storms coming or etc....
Have you tried to hook up your antenna into your receiver?? My directv has a coax for antenna. I do not know if a tivo box has it
I don't quite understand your question here but I don't have any problems with any connections, satellite dish or otherwise.
My directv box has an antenna coax. Have you tried to hook the antenna coax into your tivo?? This way you won't have to switch your box and you can tivo your locals
I had to look at the back of my newest DVR (an R15 I just got three weeks ago) and my old Tivo DVR(out of service) and there is an RF co-ax input. I never paid attention to it. On my old unit it has imprinted near the connector "pass through signal only". I'm guessing that maybe I can eliminate the AB switch but I would be surprised if I would have TIVO control of that signal. I will give it a try on my next trip.

RE: Getting new "local stations" while traveling

I think NoGoSlo is right. When you get to Arizona for the winter, call Directv and tell them where you are and they should switch you to the locals there.
Then when you go back to Washington for the summer, call them again, and get the locals switched back to your Washington stations.
I hope you are right. This almost makes too much sense but as many Direct TV users know, sometimes common sense and their policy don't align.:(

Getting new "local stations" while traveling

I'm sure I have seen this addressed in the past but I searched until I just gave up.
I have Direct TV and for many years have taken our second sat. receiver from a bedroom with us on trips. On our last trip to AZ, we had to use the batwing antenna to get locals and that was a pain to switch back and forth with an AB switch plus we coudn't "TIVO" any local programs.
Do any of you snowbirds change your locals with DirectTV while you are down south? I'm not really interested in the East/West coast feeds but in my case, the Phoenix feed. I don't want to set up an additional acct. and pay another $60 or whatever. What do you ask Direct TV to do?

RE: gas scooters

Here is a low cost option. We were at a campground last month and had a neighbor who had one of these. Just buy a used mountainbike and convert it to motorized for about $100. It was a "peddle start" and then ran great. Owner said he can get up to 35 mph.

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

A question for all of you guys......how often to you have you rv roof sealed?
I think the best answer is on an "as needed basis". I inspect my roof closely once a year. If you are talking around vents and pipes, I would say if you see cracks, that is time to apply a sealant. Obviously if you suspect leaks it is best to address them as soon as you see them. I have used a product called Dolphin 7549. I think I bought it from CW. It is a UVR ElastiSeal White compound that comes in a quart can. It really seals well. Another alternative is Eternabond tape. My roof is two piece aluminum. If you have a rubber roof, it has another set of remidies that I am not familiar with.

If you have never been to the Kinetic race in Port Townsend, you really should do it one time. Even if you don't RV there, take a day trip and be there about 11 am. The race starts at noon I believe. You will bust your gut laughing at all the entries.
We will be up at Fort Worden but it will be the weekend prior to this event. We will have some cheesy bread sticks from the bakery for those of you who won't make it.:B

Tradewinds, are you talking about applying the mineral oil to the battery posts? It sounded like you add it to the electrolyte.

Using an RG6F coupler between house jack and HD DVR

The wife wants to move the TV to another wall at home (She lives to rearange furniture):). I was simply going to use a couple lengths of RG6 cable and use a RG6F coupler to take off from the wall jacks. I have done this countless times in the past but now we have HDTV and a DIrect TV HD DVR. I don't think there should be a difference especially if I use the gold plated couplers. Have any of you done this?

RE: pad for wood or tile flooring

You might want to check out cork if you are going with a laminate. That is what I did. A bit more expensive but a better insulator for heat and road noise IMHO.

Otto.......Tom said he did have the coach batteries off. He thinks the batteries are old, (6 years) so that could be their problem but something drained the main battery also. He is replacing the coach batteries and having an electrical check on the MH tomorrow. need to get everything fixed soon before the weather gets really ugly.
What are the coach batteries of choice for all of you guys? Trojan or interstate??
Tom
I have used both but only use Trojans now for both coach and chassis.

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

I think we will be making a lot of weekend trips to get some peace and quiet and maintain our sanity. Camano Island next weekend and then I hope Moses Lake.
Tradewinds, are you going to that brand new State RV park by any chance? We heard about it by mistake. We made reservations for Ft. Worden later this month. Got a call from this new park on Camano to verify our reservations there. I told them my reservations were for Worden. They had some kind of computer glitch as they both use the same res system. Anyway she tells me this new park just opened up and it is right on the Sound. How often do you hear of a new State Park opening up. If you get over there, let us know how it is. I think it might have a marina also.

Had surgery on my hand so I have been sitting home. Drugs have kept me quiet. I have a cast on till the 26th then a month of physical therapy to be able to use my thumb again.
Something is draining our batteries in the coach also. Tom is working on that now. All the batteries are less then a month old. Even the main battery died!
Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.
Did you have both your coach and chassis main cutoff switches turned off?

RE: Wifi signal booster

It would be helpful if, in these posts, people would specify that a product is one of the following:
thanks
I must admit that I have been a little confused, but I think I get it?
With my internal wifi and antenna i probably should go with
#1. external wifi adapter, typically USB-connected, which can be located away from, and can replace, an internal wifi adapter
I want to place the antenna outside the Rv for the best reception.
Airlink AWLL3055 USB Wi-Fi adapter, I called Frys and they said they had nothing under $70.00
Can the WiFire be extended to outside the RV?
It is not practical to put put the WiFire antenna outside the RV. It works best when just clipped to the top of the laptop screen. I also clip it to the arm of a lamp we have at our table. You can then rotate it for max. signal gain. The software gives you a screen with all signals available and their strength and whether they are secure or not.

RE: Wifi signal booster

Do the external antennas mentioned boost the existing internal antenna I have built in my laptop or does it replace it? If it replacess it will software have to be added?
thanks for all the replys!!!!!!!
Chuck
The WiFire is an external antenna. You can attach it to the top of your laptop screen and rotate it for max signal or place on somewhere else-about a 5' retractable cord. It just plugs into your USB port. It comes with a software CD. Just specify your O/S. It can handle XP, Vista and Apple. Real simple.

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

Ron, I don't think those RV covers are a good thing in our climate here. You would be creating a "greehouse" for mold. If you have access to power, I would use a ceramic heater or two set low. I have also used heat lamps instead of heaters. It does consume energy but you have an expensive asset to protect. If power is not an option, I guess I would buy lots of that Dry air stuff. It worked well many years ago in my truck camper. Check on it every couple weeks to be sure mold and mildew is not a problem.
As far as winterizing, I allways use low pressure air to clear out waterlines. Much easier and less messy than filling with antifreeze. Speaking of antifreeze, don't forget to pour RV antifreeze in each of your p-traps.
